18m OCEAN CRUISER
(Ref No fb704)
Abeking & Rasmussen 18.3m ketch-rigged motor sailor, built in Germany in 1956.
This delightful vessel, which has sailed the world’s major oceans, is built of 2" teak on oak, fastened with silicon bronze. She was purchased in Germany by its current owner in 2005, & sailed to Australia on her own skin via Africa & the Southern Ocean.
She underwent a complete refurbishment in 2006/2007, from the keel up, including inspection of keel bolts, & the replacement of fasteners where necessary. She was gutted & a complete solid timber fit out put in of solid New Guinea rosewood & leather, new wiring, plumbing, & some machinery & tanks were installed. She has water tight bulkheads, & a bulkhead bilge pumping arrangement & a fire-proofed engine room. All done to survey requirements. She has a new oversize aluminium rig with furling booms & a newish wardrobe of sails. $600K was spent on the refit alone.
The current owner has sailed her with his family over 20,000 miles. She is capable & comfortable & has just come off the slip with a new paint job (April 28 2014). The vessel is ready to go & delivery can be arranged to anywhere.
Abeking & Rasmussen opened the Lemwerder shipyard in Germany in 1907 since then they have produced over 6,400 luxury yachts and mega yachts and are regarded as one the finest yacht construction companies in the world
